Walgreen, the largest U.S. drugstore chain, said total sales increased 12.1 percent for November, to $2.54 billion from $2.26 billion a year ago. Same store sales were up seven percent. Total pharmacy sales rose 17.7 percent.
CVS reported that total sales for the four weeks ended Nov. 23 rose 10.2 percent to $1.93 billion from $1.75 billion last year. Pharmacy sales represented 68.8 percent of total company sales during the month. Same-store sales rose 10.2 percent. Front-end same-store sales rose 0.7 percent, CVS said, while pharmacy same-store sales rose 15.2 percent.
