The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, Inc. (A&P) issued a voluntary “precautionary bulletin” to customers who may have purchased fresh ground meat products in its Waldbaum's supermarket on Sunset Avenue in Westhampton, NY, dated for sale on August 26th.

A&P asked that any such customer who still has product on hand return it to the store for a full refund, responding to a reported case of E. coli -related illness currently being investigated by local health authorities. Company officials emphasized that the inquiry presently involves only the Westhampton Waldbaum's store, and is confined to ground meat products sold and purchased in that store on August 26. A&P noted in its statement that this incident is not related to any of the recently publicized ground meat recalls announced by certain suppliers.
