retail news in context, analysis with attitude

According to Bloomberg News, the US Commerce Department will report a 1.1 percent drop in retail sales for September, the first decline in four months.

At the same time, the University of Michigan is expected to report that consumer confidence to have fallen to its lowest level since last November.

While consumer confidence has bolstered the economy in the last year or so, economists believe that domestic and international problems are finally catching up with them.
