After going almost two years without a commissioner, the US Senate last week unanimously confirmed Dr. Mark B. McClellan to be the new head of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Dr. McClellan, a White House adviser on health-care issues, previously served in the Clinton administration as deputy assistant secretary of the treasury for economic policy.
