  • Sainsbury announced a 10.7 percent increase in pre-tax profits, to the equivalent of $544 million (US) for the first half pf the fiscal year, with first half sales up 2.8 percent.

  • Starbucks Coffee Japan experienced a 55 percent decline in first half net. While sales were up for the period, it seemed that all the growth was due to new stores, with same-store sales in decline amid concerns that the Japanese interest in expensive gourmet coffee is waning.
