  • Whole Foods Market Inc. reported that third quarter sales were $638 million vs. $577 million in the prior year. Same-store sales increased 9.6 percent. Net income in the third quarter ended Sept. 29 rose to $22.0 million, from $9.49 million a year earlier.


  • Longs Drug Stores Corp. reported net income for the quarter ended Oct. 31 came to $3 million, compared with $2.5 million in the year-earlier period. Sales increased 4.6% to $1.06 billion from $1.02 billion a year earlier. Longs, which operates 451 drug stores in six western U.S. states, said same-store sales increased 2.7 percent.
