Reuters reports that while French truckers seemed to be having a small impact on the supply chain as they erected blockages around the country to seek higher pay, French retailers have thus far have remained fairly nonchalant.
Major retailers apparently have about two days of perishables supplies in store before they start to run out; smaller retail entities seem to be more at risk. While some retailers say they have been hurt, there only seems to be worry that there might be a repeat of a six-day stoppage that took place in 1997 and a 12-day stoppage that occurred a year later.
There also seems to be something less than unanimity among drivers who deliver the perishables, with non-union truckers breaking through the blockages in several places.
