business news in context, analysis with attitude

McDonald's Corp. announced that it will form a joint venture with Fazoli's, an “Italian-style” restaurant chain with 400 units in 32 states, to develop 20 to 30 new Fazoli's in three US markets. If it works out, McDonald’s has the option to buy out the entire company.

This move is consistent with McDonald’s recent efforts to develop other banners with different cuisines, such as the Mexican Chipotle Grill.
KC's View:
If they do as well with Fazoli’s as they’ve done with Chipotle, this deal will be a winner. However, we get suspicious about the quality of the food when the phrase used is “Italian-style” food, as opposed to “Italian food.”

Makes us want to go back and watch “Big Night” one more time…
