business news in context, analysis with attitude

Trader Joe’s in California has introduced $1.99 red and white wines that has caused shoppers to crowd its stores looking for a drinkable wine costs less than a cup of latte or a six-pack of beer.

The wine, called Charles Shaw, has been made possible by the glut of wine grapes in California. The traffic was generated when the Los Angeles Times did a front-page piece about it.

Trader Joe’s isn’t giving out specific sales figures, but is reporting “frenzied” buying by the case.
KC's View:
The shame, from our POV, is that Trader Joe’s can’t sell wine in Connecticut.
