E-Commerce Times reports that a new ACNielsen study predicts that consumers plan to spend as much as $4.8 billion online during the first quarter of 2003, up from $4.6 billion a year ago. The number of consumers who said they plan to shop online during the first quarter of the year increased nine percent compared with last year, to 56 percent.

However, consumer confidence in the Internet has declined a bit in the past 12 months -- though analysts note that it hasn’t declined as much as consumer confidence in other areas of the economy in this time of national and geopolitical uncertainty.
