CBS.MarketWatch reports that among the retailing companies that are on the list of top 10 US employers, at least some of them are looking at significant hiring moves during the coming year as they continue to grow their businesses.
Wal-Mart, for example, plans to hire thousands of associates as it adds 48 million square feet of new retail space this year, according to a company spokesman. Much of this growth will be on the east coast and northeast US.
J.C. Penney’s Eckerd drugstore subsidiary, which plans to open 230 new stores this year, anticipates hiring more than 4,000 people to staff them.
According to CBS.MarketWatch, not every retailer would respond to its queries.

3. General Motors
4. United Parcel Service
5. Ford Motor Co.

- Seems pretty clear that Wal-Mart and McDonald’s will be switching places on the list this year.
