Amazon.com has decided to make permanent its free shipping policy on orders of more than $25.

Amazon CFO Tom Szkutak said that while free shipping was previously said to be a short-term promotion, “We're thinking that it’s the right thing to be doing for customers.”

This move raises the bar for any business in the e-commerce racket. Free delivery, whether it be by FedEx, UPS, the US Mail or a delivery van, is going to become a cost of doing business. Consumers will expect it.
