The UK’s Takeover Panel extended the deadline for the publication of new information in the bidding contest for Safeway Plc, according to a report this morning from our friends at PlanetRetail.net. While March 11 was originally set as the date by which the disclosure of information by Safeway to bidders had to take place, the government has not extended it by at last hone days.

Safeway, the UK's fourth-largest supermarket chain, has one confirmed offer from Morrison, and proposed bids from Sainsbury, Asda-Wal-Mart, Tesco and Philip Green.
