business news in context, analysis with attitude

Ahold, reeling from an accounting scandal that revealed that it overstated earnings by a half-billion dollars, is waiting for the announcement of “new developments” that is to be made later this week by The Dutch Foundation for the Investigation of Corporate Information (SOBI).

Our friends over at PlanetRetail.net report this morning that SOBI, an independent watchdog group, already has filed a complaint alleging insider trading by the company, as well as filing a separate suit against former Ahold CEO Cees van der Hoeven.

The suit against van der Hoeven accuses him of having been an accomplice to embezzlement “related to Ahold’s dealings with former Argentine joint venture partner Velox Retail Holdings.”

We’re just guessing here, of course, but somehow this doesn’t sound like it is going to be one of “let’s all feel the love” announcements.
