The Detroit Free Press reports on how self-checkout, which has gained wide acceptance in the world of food retailing, now seems to be finding a foothold in places such as pharmacies, c-stores and even libraries.
While companies such as Home Depot and Walgreen are cited as using or testing self-checkout, Target remains a holdout.
“The self checkout strikes at the key part of the life at Target, and that is speed,” Doug Kilne, a Target spokesman, tells the Free Press. “Our checkout process has been developed for the speediest and most convenient experience for our guests.”
