business news in context, analysis with attitude

The Fort Myers News-Press reports that Tampa-based Kash n’ Karry plans to open a dozen stores in Southwest Florida, including in one Fort Myers location that Food Lion abandoned several years ago.

Food Lion and Kash n’ Karry, of course, are both owned by Delhaize of Belgium.

The company is not providing details of its plans for the region, but there are reports that it has signed leases on several locations.

Kash n’ Karry operates more than 140 stores in Florida and Food Lion has more than 1,200 in the Southeast US.
KC's View:
We’re big fans of the Kash n’ Karry management, especially CEO Ron Hodge, who has done terrific things with Hannaford Bros. in the Northeast US. This is an interesting move in a highly competitive market…and we like offense, not defense.
