Drugstore.com announced that it has acquired for $5.3 million California-based, privately-held Custom Nutrition Services (CNS), which provides personalized nutrition services to consumers in the form of an online assessment of an individual's specific nutritional supplement needs, and then delivers the personalized vitamins, minerals, herbs, and supplements in pharmaceutical grade, daily dose packaging.

CNS is the exclusive online distributor for CustomPaks from Dr. Andrew Weil and The Pritikin Longevity Center.
KC's View:
These kinds of moves always suggest to us the kinds of synergies and services that the Internet makes possible.

Here you have an online retailer that acquires a company that offers online services that are directly connected to its core business proposition. Win-win.

And, in essence, the company now gets into the business of mass customization, which, as we all know, is one of the real hot buttons in retailing today.

Win-win-win.
