Dow Jones reports that Fleming Cos. has asked the bankruptcy court overseeing its financial affairs to okay going-out-of-business sales at a number of its retail units.
Fleming already is in the process to closing 27 stores, but is looking to close as many as 40 more if it can’t sell them off.
The court will consider the request next week.
Fleming filed for bankruptcy protection on April 1, listing assets of $4.22 billion and debts of $3.54 billion. At that point, the company operated 100 retail stores, having divested 268 during the previous three years.
