Published reports say that A&P-owned Farmer Jack supermarkets is planning to change the name of at least some of its stores to the value-oriented Food Basics banner that A&P has used successfully in New York and Canada.

This report comes on the heels of yesterday's announcement that almost 10,000 Farmer Jack employees have agreed to take a five percent pay cut effective January 1, 2004, as a way of helping the 105-unit chain to keep most of its stores open in the face of tough competition from Meijer and Kroger.
