The Arkansas Board of Education has voted unanimously to ban vending machines from the state’s elementary schools, and to make vending machines of limits in middle and high schools until a half-hour after the final lunch period is over.

The new regulations also require that students in kindergarten through 12th grade get 30 minutes of programmed exercise each day.
KC's View:
The moves by the board are very much a matter of the state putting its money where its mouth is.

Former Arkansas Governor and US President Bill Clinton, who has struggled with a weight problem since childhood and suffered heart problems since leaving the White House, is working with the American Heart Association to create programs that will combat childhood obesity, and has been joined in his efforts by the state’s current governor, Mike Huckabee, who was 280 pounds two years ago, was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes – and then lost 110 pounds.
