The Associated Press reports that the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is pursuing a lawsuit against Albertsons that charges the company with ignoring “a decade long pattern of harassment” at a Denver warehouse against black and Hispanic employees.
The suit charges that company officials did not take sufficient steps to stop the harassment, and therefore enabled a “hostile workplace.”
Of course, the suit now is being defended by a consortium headed up by Cerberus Capital Management, which bought Albertsons’ Rocky Mountain assets last month. The new owners said in a statement that while the events predated their involvement with the company, they will investigate and take appropriate corrective and disciplinary actions.
