The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that Sur La Table, the 56-unit gourmet kitchen supply chain, plans to open between 10 and 20 new stores a year over the next few years.
"This is a company that has been preparing for growth,” CEO Kathy Tierney tells the paper, “and there is a demand.”
Sur La Table reportedly has experienced as much as 25 percent annual sales growth for the past three years, owing to an increased interest in cooking at home. “The kitchen has really become the center of the home," Tierney says. "Whether we are cooking to relax on the weekends or on demand, there is an interest in all things culinary. Whether it's a beginner or a foodie, we serve the needs of all of our customers.”
Sur La Table isn’t alone in the market, however, as it faces strong competition from companies like Target and Williams-Sonoma.

- Okay. So consumers aren’t easy to figure, and don’t always fit into neat little boxes.
