business news in context, analysis with attitude

Longtime MNB readers who know how often we quoted a certain modern minstrel, poet and philosopher won't be surprised that this morning's FaceTime is about Jimmy Buffett, who passed away on Friday at age 76.

Here was the posting on his website:

“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs.  He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”

It was later disclosed that Buffett had been fighting Merkel cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer, for four years.

As a lifelong and exuberant Buffett fan, I can tell you that he made life a song for many of us, in ways that alternated between the celebratory and elegiac, but always aspirational, as in, "I'd rather die while I'm living than live when I'm dead."

No surprise - I have some business lessons to offer.

Note: I took this picture in 2008 when Mrs. Content Guy and I went to the opening of the Margaritaville at Mohegan Sun;  there were just a few hundred people there, and we got invited because of all the parties that MNB hosted at the Margaritaville in Vegas during the old FMI Shows. Amazing night.

Fins up!
