•  Walgreens Boots Alliance named Tim Wentworth, the former CEO of Express Scripts with "deep healthcare experience," as its new CEO.

The Wall Street Journal writes that "the move follows the recent sudden departure of Rosalind Brewer. Brewer had led Walgreens since March 2021 and pursued a strategy of moving deeper into U.S. healthcare services, including a string of deals aimed at putting physicians on Walgreens’s payroll.

"Yet the board ultimately decided to move in a different direction when the company’s performance didn’t improve enough, people familiar with the situation said."

Wentworth is coming into a company that is seeing its core business

"under pressure partly because of PBMs like his former company, which seek to push down drug costs by negotiating with pharmacies and manufacturers."  Walgreens also is facing selective walkouts by its pharmacists and technicians around the country, who are complaining of overwork and understaffing.
